Nautical Bronzes is an in progress series of bronze sculptures that are a lightly fanciful blend of maritime history, fiction and legend. It is the borderland between reality and fantasy.
Grub for the Crew is the first sculpture in the series, and a unique representation of a pirate foraging to feed himself and his crew on fresh, turtle meat during a long voyage. The pirate represented by the sculpture is a resourceful sea rover. He knows how to survive, and has managed to escape starvation and the hangman on many a long and perilous voyage. The representation of a pirate preying on a marine turtle to feed a hungry crew is a novel one. It is sure to stimulate imagination and interest. A Chinese pirate holding a large Iguana lizard over a wicker chest has been delivered to an art foundry for casting, and should be available soon. It is also a lightly fanciful blend of historical fact, fiction and legend. Another work being cast is a whimsical representation of a lobster fisherman and his Irish wolfhound. The lobsterman is portrayed trying to protect an enormous lobster from his inquisitive dog.
